Parodontiumstatus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

De status van het tandvlees wordt vastgelegd in een parodontiumstatus.
Dit houdt in het opmeten van de ruimte tussen het tandoppervlak en het tandvlees (pockets). Gemeten wordt de mate waarin het tandvlees is teruggetrokken (recessies) en de mate van toegankelijke wortelsplitsingen (furcaties) en de mate van mobiliteit van tanden en kiezen (of tanden en kiezen al los staan door het botverlies) en waar tandplak en tandsteen op de tanden en kiezen zit.
Dit onderzoek wordt uitgevoerd met een pocketsonde. Deze wordt in de pocket geplaatst en de diepte wordt afgelezen. Wanneer het tandvlees hierbij bloed is dit ontstoken. Van het hele gebit worden de pockets zo onderzocht en wordt de PPS-score 1,2,3 bepaald. Bij een pocketdiepte vanaf 4 mm is sprake van een verdiepte pocket.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Bacteriologisch onderzoek<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mocht bij zeer ernstige parodontitis blijken dat er na behandeling onvoldoende resultaat is geboekt en alle factoren die in het ontstekingsproces een rol spelen zijn uitgesloten, kan er aan de hand van een bacteriologisch onderzoek bekeken worden welke bacterieflora aanwezig is. Hiervoor worden door middel van een papieren staafje bacteri\u00ebn uit de pocket gehaald. De staafjes worden vervolgens opgestuurd naar LabOral, een tandheelkundig laboratorium waar de bacteri\u00ebn op kweek worden gezet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Er wordt gekeken naar welke (paropathogene) bacteri\u00ebn er zich in de pocket bevinden. Aan de hand van de uitslag van LabOral wordt er een persoonlijk therapie-advies gegeven en wordt beoordeeld of eventueel antibiotica nodig zijn.
Dit gaat altijd in overleg met uw tandarts, huisarts en\/of apotheker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roken<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Roken heeft erg veel invloed op de algemene gezondheid en dus ook op de mondgezondheid. Er vindt bij rokers minder doorbloeding plaats van het tandvlees, waardoor de eigen afweer minder kans heeft om tandvleesontstekingen te voorkomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Door het roken vormt zich nicotine-aanslag op het gebit hierdoor wordt het tandoppervlak ruwer. Hierdoor kunnen tandplak en tandsteen zich beter hechten op het gebit en een negatieve invloed hebben op de tandvleesontsteking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rokers reageren slechter op de initi\u00eble behandeling of een antibiotica-kuur dan niet-rokers. Voor een goede mondgezondheid is het aan te raden niet te roken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
